“Lindsay Jackson, the woman who dressed her young daughter as Dolly Parton– complete with a padded bra and sculpting underwear– for a child beauty pageant that aired on TLC’s ‘Toddler’s and Tiaras’ could lose custody of the girl after her estranged husband claimed she sexually exploited their daughter by allowing her to dress so provocatively. Little Maddy Verst’s appearance in the costume on an episode of the controversial TLC program sparked a firestorm of criticism against her mother. Lindsay thought it was funny, many onlookers disagreed and thought it outrageous and disturbing.
Sexualizing toddlers and children is emotionally abusive, a brainwash of children to flaunt themselves for approval, love, and basic survival. Shows like “Toddlers & Tiaras” take a sexual baby circus to the max, making it an acceptable norm, and instigating the next outrageous antics to gain viewership. The bigger picture is the denigration of the human spirit that has permeated television with the advent of so many networks, cable shows, and lack of censorship. Back in the day we would end up on the cutting room floor with too much cleavage showing. Now a child parades in fake breasts and a padded bootie turning on every hungry pedophile longing to get their hands on them.
A society gone amuck is doomed without revamping the basic ethics of humane treatment, educating our children by example, and reigning in the media for responsible family viewing, which includes educating parents and youth in media smarts viewing.”
