Hoto Zengen

'Little Hoto-Zengen, Dad and Toosie'

“…now an old man ambling about our local village shouldering an empty bag.
That empty bag once carried academic degrees, monastic life (both Benedictine, Franciscan, and for over forty years as a Soto Zen monk, named Hoto-Zengen by his abbot, Uchiyama Kosho), this and that. The older one gets, the more ridiculous all that becomes. However so that might be, one remains incredibly humbled by the course of karma guiding teachers to remain in disciplined call and carry forth the task of transmitting the Dharma to flowering minds.”
